about

Loss:/self is a record of perpetual scope. It is a concept album, where every piece of the puzzle reinforces the ideas present in the title. Many acts seem to be shying away from grand statements but we embrace spiralling, mysterious nature that music inherently conveys in infinite ways.

The enormity of the subject matter was directly related to how we made the album. Loss:/self was recorded in Montreal, New York (stranded in the city for 3 days, recording during Hurricane Irene) and around various places in Ontario. We utilized 40 instruments and household items, a 35-person stomp/gang vocal/drum circle orchestra, and sampled a whale that produced the wrong frequency, which consequently ostracized her from other whales because she didn't communicate properly.

The sonic foundation, mixed by Laurence Currie (Hey Rosetta, Wintersleep), worked intricately with the expressive nature of the songs; to not only reinforce the immediate emotions but to highlight the ongoing themes.

Future History Toronto, Ontario

Finding a hermitage in an old abandoned cabin in the backwoods of Ontario, assembling a myriad of old recording equipment and utilizing old furniture discovered in the cabin, Future History spent 8 months in solitude. Summoning, creating and capturing. The result is a haunting 8 song trip entitle 'Lungs' that echoes and responds to the questions asked in Loss:/self. ... more
